I have always led a busy life and still do, although I like to keep everything as simple as possible. My heart is a muscle, and I need to understand how it works and how I can help repair any damage.

My own heart has always been strong, and I was advised to help it in anyway possible, along with a constant supply of blood.

Here are some key points to consider:

I need a lot of good, healthy food. I changed my eating habits and, on school days from Monday to Friday, I am disciplined. From noon on Friday to midnight on Sunday, I enjoy what I want. There are many healthy options and dietary advice available on various websites. I always remember that the only thing I consume that is not food is still water, which helps my blood flow.

If I cannot break a bad habit, then I reduce it and embrace change wherever possible. I always remember to reward myself when I deserve it.

I keep an eye on my weight. I weigh myself every Friday morning before breakfast. I set achievable goals and do not set myself up to fail. I almost stopped eating roasted potatoes and replaced them with parsnips, which worked for me. I really have to find what works for me.

They say a general range of healthy blood pressure is from 90 over 60 up to 120 over 80. Anything over that is starting to get high.

I check myself regularly, study my numbers, and see where I am in that range. I understand what causes my high or low BP or HR, and learn what does not suit me. I always take my readings when resting, as itโ€™s a resting HR reading I require. I am calm when I take my BP or HR and avoid taking them just after eating or drinking caffeine.

๐Œ๐š๐ง๐š๐ ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐‚๐ก๐จ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐จ๐ฅ

I know there is good and bad cholesterol. I wanted to know what I could do to help increase my good cholesterol’s fight over the bad. The medical profession says no matter how low my cholesterol is, it can always be lower. I do a lot of research and understand what I need to do to help the good cholesterol. If I canโ€™t break a bad habit, then I reduce it as much as possible.

๐‡๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐Œ๐ฒ ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ ๐“๐š๐ค๐ž๐ง

I have been advised to have my blood tested every four months. For the past six years, I drink at least a litre of water three hours before to increase blood flow and make it easier. I relax when Iโ€™m having my blood taken and do not watch it being done. If I find someone who is gentle and good at taking my blood, then I put them on my Christmas card list.

๐๐ก๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐€๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ

I find the time for physical activity and find a way to enjoy it. My heart is a muscle and needs exercise to stay healthy. I always warm up, build up my levels of exercise over time, and make it work for me. I push myself, but do not overdo it.

I read up and study the medication I have been prescribed. I set up a routine and make my medication-taking a habit. I let my doctor, pharmacist, or health professional know if I need or believe my medication needs to be reviewed.

I encourage and accept all appointments or invitations offered to me and attend those rehab classes. Heart conditions happen to every age group; there is no exclusive membership. I have attended rehab with people less than half my age, and they leave the sessions with a better understanding. I do not skip any classes I am invited to, as I learn things I never realised before and leave knowing so much about the direction to take and my heart’s needs.

We all react/respond differently, yet our cardiac makeup is much the same for all of us. It is up to me to embrace change to live as long and as well as I possibly can. I check out the British Heart Foundation (BHF) website and read their literature, as they have so much down-to-earth information and experience to help me understand and deal with my situation.
