Promoting all aspects of well-being through ongoing global social media campaigns.

Our Story

Whirlwind Sports Community Interest Company (CIC).

The Duchy Retailer, Whirlwind Sports, has for many years supported the community by helping everyone be as active as possible, offering additional discounted leisure attire and footwear to encourage activity.

The Whirlwind Sports Community Interest Company (CIC), which was founded in May 2017 enabled Whirlwind Sports to continue to channel their financial support through the CIC to support the wider community in as many ways as possible.

Assisting with The Coast Activity Programme

In 2021 The Coast Activity Programme was founded by Emily & Neil Eddy. Starting with just a team of 4, they ran a Christmas holiday camp in Hayle at a local primary school.

With 40 children a day, from the start, they knew they were creating something special for the community’s benefit.

With a focus on Developing Skills, Being Active, Making Friends and Having Fun, all children were welcomed, making them all feel valued and supported.

The response from parents and headteachers was empowering and with such high demand, Coast quickly grew.

By 2023 they were in five locations and fully booked in many of them. Offering swimming at most sites and supporting families in need, they have quickly become a hub of fun, activity and support.

Building connections with schools to ensure the continuity of care for children. Supporting children in care and whilst creating a love for wanting to be active.

Cornwall Rugby League & Sporting Events

WWS and the CIC joined forces with Cornwall’s very own Rugby League Club (CRL) as their aims to encourage activity within the Duchy were mirrored and are in alignment with the aims and objectives of the CIC.

The CRL encourage and supports youth interaction, and as their season is in the summer months, the CRL make full use of the longer/lighter days to engage community involvement for our youth and less financially fortunate families.

Rugby League Home games are designed to be affordable, accessible and are so well attended due to the club management having an ongoing interaction with the youth of our community all year around.

Local “Work And Live” Support

After the first COVID lockdown, the CIC Board became aware of the pending lack of local affordable community workers’ accommodation. The Board Members of the CIC earmarked an annual budget to acquire and modernise properties for work/live use.

The project has now grown to such a scale that the CEO is currently in advanced talks with landowners who are looking well into the future to make available land and many genuinely affordable properties for community use.

In 2022, the CIC Board Members were made aware of a local family who have helped the community for many generations.

The family’s intention is to further their support by donating land to the local school and making available land with building permissions for local homes. The next 5-year plan is for the family and the CIC, in collaboration with local suppliers and traders, to build and put in place modern, carbon-friendly, future-proof properties for local needs.

Active Cornwall and Cornwall School Games

In 2021, WWS were approached by Cornwall School Games (CSG) and Active Cornwall (AC) and asked if they would be their headline sponsor, as all other sponsor availability had disappeared.

Although they wanted to help where possible, Whirlwind Sports does not sponsor anyone at all.

The CIC then stepped in and gave financial and promotional support where needed to help the Cornwall School Games continue.

The CIC remains committed to helping and encouraging the youth within our community, and is 100% supporting the CSG and AC, through promoting wherever possible at all their youth functions and events.

Supporting the Community through COVID

In 2020, the CIC worked in collaboration with many companies and local businesses within the Duchy to help and support Community-Based Organisations, Help Groups, Clubs, and Schools in promoting activity which still continues to help so much with ongoing Community Wellbeing.

When COVID struck, our community was hit hard, so the CIC collaborated with Global Supply Partners to help encourage physical activity over the internet with a message to prepare for when we can all, once again, socially interact.

The CIC promoted discounted physical activities and lifestyle
attire/footwear with a view to encouraging everyone to keep as active and healthy as possible. The activity seed that was planted through the lockdowns has grown into a very long list of well-attended activities and events, where the attendance numbers are still growing.

Promoting Children’s Hospice South West

In 2019, we were asked to help raise funds and to promote the Children’s Hospice South West. The CIC ran a campaign working alongside Duchy businesses, where the public pledged and gave in excess of ten times what was initially hoped to be raised for the Children’s Hospice.

Our CIC Tech Team’s Social Media Campaign received a big thank you from an unbelievable number of local businesses for the quiet, unassuming way that the campaign was run, where so much positive exposure was achieved for so many local businesses and companies that supported the campaign.

Working With Duchy Businesses

In 2018, the CIC met with a senior partner of a forward-thinking, long-established Doctors Surgery within the Duchy, who advised the CIC also to support and encourage the then-new concept of “Social Prescribing” availability and participation. It is worth noting that “Social Prescribing” in 2024 is now widely encouraged and helps so many.

When COVID struck, our community was hit hard, so the CIC collaborated with Global Supply Partners to help encourage physical activity over the internet with a message to prepare for when we can all, once again, socially interact.

A Big Thank You

We thank you all so much for the support given to the CIC, which makes it possible for us all to help build a better future within our community in so many more ways than we first hoped.

We are proudly supported by so many companies and businesses, helping with so many more who are pledging their support. Please see a sample of the growing list of those who make it all possible. With their help, it has made it possible for the CIC to help within our community.
